The first time I knew Maria Monique LastWish Foundation was when I
found a brochure of it at a hair salon in Indonesia and I was interested
with that organization because the vision of the organization is to
fulfill the wishes of the poor critically ill children. Their wishes
usually are very simple such as teddy bears, soccer balls, wheelchairs,
etc, which make me touched so deeply. My mother has contributed a
lot to this organization. One time, I should give a presentation in
SMU (Singapore Management University) and I chose to bring Maria Monique
as my subject. When I did the presentation, my teacher got interested
and said that I could establish the club in SMU so he gave me the
contact person who took charge in volunteering activity.
At that time, I knew that Indonesian community in SMU holds annual
cultural performance called GAYA. I gave suggestion to the GAYA coordinators
to perform Maria Moniques story. After they accepted my proposal,
I asked Ms. Natalia to come to Singapore and I arranged a meeting
for her, SMUs volunteering coordinator, and GAYAs coordinator.
Ms. Natalia is very passionate to spread her missions to bring happiness
for incurably ill children around the world, which was inspired by
Monique, her only daughter. Once, she said that Moniques story
happened in Singapore so she wanted to have it performed in Singapore
but by Indonesian. As a result, she saw that GAYA would be the right
media to fulfill her mission, to touch the heart of people in Singapore.
To make GAYA successful, she asked Indonesian senior artist who was
also the advisor of this foundation, Ms. Titiek Puspa, to conduct
audition to choose the right people for the drama. GAYA 2009 was very
successful; it took many sympathy of many societies such as Singapore
goverment, Indonesian embassy, Mount Elizabeth hospital, Straits Times,
Marriot Hotel, and so on.
The six months that I spent in Singapore, volunteering at this organization,
changed my perspective of life. It was an honor for me to be involved
in this activity and by always accompanying her, I learned a lot from
Ms. Natalias long story of life. She inspired me that everything
is possible as long as you believe in God. Until now, whenever she
faces problems, she always says, Let God takes it all
and miraculously, she always gets a way out to solve her problem.
Moreover she gave me advice that I should forgive everyone in order
to get smooth path in my life. I am very fortunate to know this extraordinary
lady who has given positive perspectives of life especially to make
my life meaningful to others.
Now Im studying in the USA and I want to spread her mission
in America as her team in California. |
